SegaWorld Excursion (15/4/2003)

Yesterday night, I made my second ever excursion to SegaWorld. It was raining. Typical freaking day in London, sadly... but, luckily, it was just a drizzle.

You’re probably wondering how I got into the abandoned building in the first place. Piccadilly is, obviously, never not bustling. Well... I’ll just say that I’ve found some rather sneaky methods. I don’t want to give away all my secrets. Not all explorers are as thoughtful as me! It’s already a miracle that this place hasn’t been trashed yet. The location is definitely contributing to that.

Anyway, I found my way inside without issue.

At no point did I regret my decision. I was still pissed I didn’t get to go to SegaWorld when it was open, especially when they made it FREE! Of course, if we hadn’t moved to London at all, I guess I would’ve never seen it regardless... at least I get to see what’s left!

I’ll walk you through what I saw.

The first thing I saw when I nudged through those doors was the remnants of the McDonald's. Thrilling stuff, I know. I still think it’s pretty lame that they didn’t make a Sonic themed restaurant. Sometimes, it doesn’t shock me that this place closed down. Bad decisions all around.

But, past the bones of old fryers, there was the Sega Store... what was left of it, anyway. The store's sign, miraculously, was still there.

Let me tell you... some of the paraphernalia they left behind was so, SO tempting to take back to the flat. But... the explorer’s code is to observe and never take. So, resisting the temptation to bank a quick pound, I carried on. One of the first things I found was a lost ticket. Don't worry, I didn't take it home.

A photo of the ticket in question:

Simply Beautiful. However, I think I'd get a disease if I touched this. It's still safe and sound at SegaWorld.

At some point... I had found myself face to face with something better than a stray ticket. Something special. Something that was leagues more interesting.

In a storage closet, behind some gross planks (okay, I said I wouldn’t take, never said I wouldn’t move a few rotting wooden planks around!) I found a whole statue. Like... an entire Sonic statue was just... in there.

I quickly pulled out my camera and took some film.

Here’s what I captured:

Sorry it's so dark. I was too stupid to remember to turn the torch on.

Obviously, this poor guy wasn’t in the best shape. Something about seeing him all alone, dusty, with a broken off freaking arm... it was too much! It felt like I had been punched in the gut.

After taking the video, I left right away. I couldn’t bear the sad sight of that poor Sonic any longer.

But... I will make another excursion very soon. So... be on the lookout for that!
